Employers wishing to have an inclusive workplace to hire people with disabilities are encouraged to contact VARC also. At VARC, the Day Services program is designed to assist adult clients in developing skills in the areas of daily living, socialization, recreation, basic general education, and community living. Person-centered service plans are developed to help identify goals and assist each participant in gaining and enhancing the skills to lead an active and fulfilling life. Participants also go on outings in the area community for a wide variety of activities to learn new skills while having fun with friends.
VARC Prevocational Services are specifically designed to assist our clientele in improving their work skills, employment readiness, and meeting their overall employment objectives. People in the program may have never experienced work as well as individuals returning to the work force. The unemployment rate for people with a disability is about double that of people without a disability. VARC helps participants with varying abilities through employment skill development, vocational training, and also assists them in finding and maintaining jobs that match their employment interests.
People in the programs may have a variety of disabilities and other barriers including autism, intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), down syndrome, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), mental health conditions, behavioral health challenges, or physical disabilities. “Instead of focusing on their disability and what they cannot do, we look at their abilities, interests, and what contributions they can make.” explained Shelby Neubauer, VARC Director of Client Services. VARC embraces individualism and is dedicated to helping clients realize their potential. VARC works with clients having a variety of disability benefits, government programs, and private payment options. After the ExploreAbility week, clients can explore options for enrolling in services.
In some locations, VARC has transportation availability, for door-to-door pick-up and drop-off services. VARC is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit that serves children, adults, and their families by providing programming that fosters development for people with disabilities. VARC provides employment-related services to over 800 clients in fifteen different locations in 9 different Wisconsin counties and has maintained its commitment to assisting those with obstacles to employment to find fulfillment in their lives through meaningful activities and independent lifestyles.
